It will provide insights into the science behind climate change, its effects both globally and regionally, and how you can inspire others to make a difference. Participants will also learn practical steps they can take personally to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Why Take the Carbon Literacy Training?

As a business leader, employee, or member of an organisation, adopting a carbon-conscious mindset is critical for the future. Here’s why Carbon Literacy matters:

  • Understand the Climate Science: Learn about carbon emissions, the effects of global warming, and the role of human activities in climate change.
  • Take Action: Gain practical tools to reduce carbon emissions at work, at home, and within your community.

The course is delivered in a hybrid format. The initial modules are e-learning modules that can be completed at your own pace and convenience. The final module consists of a 2–3-hour virtual session, where you’ll have the opportunity to connect with other learners and learn how to develop your personal action plan. Your completed action plan will then be submitted to the Carbon Literacy Project for evaluation.

What do I achieve upon completing the course?

Upon successfully completing the course and committing to carbon-reducing actions, you will receive formal accreditation as Carbon Literate, recognising your understanding of climate change and your ability to take meaningful action to reduce carbon emissions. The e-learning modules are certified by the Continual Professional Development (CPD) Accreditation Scheme, meaning the hours spent on this course can count toward your CPD hours, supporting your ongoing professional development. Additionally, the Carbon Literacy Project is globally recognised and celebrated by the United Nations as part of their Transformative Action Programme, underscoring the importance of your efforts in the global fight against climate change. No prior knowledge or experience is needed to take the course, and you are encouraged to go through each module at your own pace. How Can an Energy Assessment Benefit You?

  • Get a Clear Picture of Your Energy Usage: Get clear insights into your energy consumption and bills
  • Save Money & Energy: Find simple and effective ways to reduce your energy costs and consumption.
  • Expert Advice: Receive tailored recommendations to optimise your energy use
  • Unlock Funding Opportunities: Learn about available grants and use your report to apply for future funding.
  • Quick Wins: Implement easy & cost-effective energy solutions for immediate savings

What’s Involved in an Energy Assessment?

The process begins when your business expresses interest and provides the energy bills from the past 12 months. Typically, we offer up to 12 hours of support for each business to ensure a comprehensive assessment.
Our first step is to understand how your business operates. We then carry out a virtual audit, reviewing key areas such as building fabric, insulation, machinery, and lighting systems, while also exploring opportunities for low-carbon technologies and renewable energy solutions. In complex cases, we would be happy to conduct a site visit. We will also address any questions you have and provide feasible solutions where possible.
The assessment usually takes between 1-2 hours, depending on the size of your business. Following the visit, we’ll analyse the findings and provide you with a detailed energy report and actionable recommendations within a few weeks. Where applicable, the report can be used to support applications for government grants, although approval will depend on the relevant authorities and your business meeting the necessary eligibility criteria when funding opportunities arise.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is an Energy Assessment?
An Energy Assessment is a review of your business’s energy usage. It helps identify where energy is being used inefficiently and offers practical recommendations to reduce costs, save energy, and improve sustainability.
How much support will my business receive?
Each eligible business can receive up to 12 hours of tailored support, including virtual audits, data analysis, and a follow-up report with recommendations.
Who is eligible for the Energy Assessment?

To be eligible, your business must:

  • Have a trading address in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough region
  • Be registered with Companies House or be a registered charity
  • Have been trading for at least 12 months
  • Operate from entirely non-domestic premises
How does an Energy Assessment work?
We begin by reviewing your energy bills from the past 12 months. If available, providing half-hourly energy data can offer deeper insights into usage patterns and help us deliver more tailored recommendations. We’ll then arrange a date to carry out a virtual audit of your business activities and premises.

In more complex cases, a site visit will be arranged, and an in-person audit will be conducted. Following the assessment, we analyse the findings and present them in a detailed report with clear, actionable steps.

How long does an Energy Assessment take?
The initial audit usually takes 1–2 hours, depending on the size and complexity of your operations. The full process, including analysis and reporting, is typically completed within a few weeks.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. You’ll receive a detailed energy report outlining findings, recommendations, and possible next steps. This report may also be useful when applying for certain government grants or funding opportunities.
Can the assessment help me access funding?
While the Energy Assessment is not directly linked to any funding schemes, the report may help your business make informed decisions about future energy improvements. In some cases, it could also help you understand whether you’re in a good position to explore available grants or support options, should they arise.
What industries are eligible?
We work with a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, commercial buildings, healthcare, and more.
