Exporting is a great way to sell both goods and services to a new client base, expanding into new and emerging markets. Even better news is that support is available to help you take the correct steps to start exporting successfully. If you want to find out more about exporting and whether it is right for you, check out the dedicated Exporting page on our website here.

If you would like to start exporting, Open to Export has an Export Action Plan that can help business owners planning to sell overseas. The Export Action Plan has five steps with support from prompts and videos to help you make the right choices for your business. This action plan will ask the questions:

  • Am I ready to export?
  • Which product should I export?
  • Where should I export to?
  • How will I cover the additional costs?
  • How will I make a profit?

Once you have answered the questions, you will have a good basis from which to start your exporting operations.

Open to Export also runs competitions for SMEs to help them in their quest to start exporting. Prizes are geared towards supporting the winner to start exporting and past awards have included a £3,000 cash prize and £3,000 worth of support in the form of support in the form of website build, translation and memberships to help the winner even further.

Entry is eligible to companies who submit their Export Action Plan and meet the competition criteria – namely being a small business with fewer than 50 employees.

For details on how to enter the competition and further instructions, visit the page here.
